Two more arrested for Kwanobuhle mass murders

File

Two more suspects have appeared in court in connection with a mass shooting incident in Kwanobuhle in Kariega last month that left seven people dead.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said 18-year-old Rivaldo Baartman and 24-year-old Shane Arends appeared in court on Monday.

She said the two were arrested in Bloemfontein on Friday where they were allegedly “hiding out.”

They are being charged in connection with a suspected “drug-related” shooting at a house in Mdledle Street in Kwanobuhle on 11 July.

Police said in an earlier statement that three men entered the yard of the house and opened fire, killing six people on the scene, while the seventh victim died in hospital.

Naidu said the Baartman and Arends face seven counts of murder and three counts of attempted murder.

She said the case against them was postponed to 25 August when they will join five other accused in the dock.
