Two suspects have appeared in a Gqeberha court in connection with a recent brutal crime spree that left an Atlas security officer hospitalised, another man fatally wounded and a third shot in the buttocks.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said 33-year-old Bongani Makasi appeared in court on Monday with co-accused, 37-year-old, Siyabulela Stana.

She said Makasi was remanded in custody until his next court appearance on Wednesday, while Stana will be back court again on 4 August.

The two were arrested in connection with an attack on an Atlas security officer in Western Road in Central on 29, May, after he had gone to the assistance of another person being assaulted by a group of people.

After severely assaulting the officer, the suspects took his firearm and then went on a spree, robbing two students at a block of flats of the laptop computers and cell phones.

The suspect are also believed to have wounded a 29-year-old man in the buttocks in an abandoned building after searching for someone who owed them money, and then later in the evening firing a shot that killed 30-year-old Loyiso Sinandile.

Naidu said Stana was arrested on charges of murder, robbery, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and house robbery, while Makasi was charged with robbery and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

She said the search for a third suspect is still continuing.
