The speedy response by community members and police led to the arrest of two suspects for the alleged rape of a five-year-old Eastern Cape child.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said the alleged incident happened at Mgababa Location on Sunday afternoon when the child was at a traditional ceremony with her mother.
She said the mother began to look for the child in the afternoon, and when she returned the mother noticed that she was not looking well.
Naidu said after questioning the child it was established that she had been raped.
Members of the Prudhoe Community in the Amathole District apprehended a 21-year-old man and later the second 38-year-old suspect was taken into custody.
They are due to appear in court in Peddie on Wednesday.
