Trucks set alight in by protestors at Truckers Inn

Police in Gqeberha are investigating three cases of malicious damage to property after three trucks were set alight by protestors on Thursday night.

Spokesperson Captain Andre Beetge says Swartkops police were alerted to protesters blocking the R335 between the N2 at Truckers Inn and the M17, as well as the M17 itself.

He says Public Order Police were dispatched to the scene, and on arrival, three trucks were found set alight by protesters.

The drivers of the trucks were taken to the police station to open cases.

POPS remained in the area, and no further incidents were reported.

It is not clear what the protest was about.
