The driver of a truck is recovering in a Gqeberha hospital after he was shot in the stomach in an alleged ambush on Thursday afternoon.
Three armed men tried to hijack the truck that was transporting alcohol in Greenbushes.
Branch manager at Viper Security, Celeste Pearson said their members responded to the scene, and when the suspects spotted their vehicle, they tried to push the security vehicle off the road.
She said when the men shot at Viper Security members, they retaliated and managed to stop the truck.
Pearson said two suspects were apprehended while a third fled into a nearby location where police are currently searching for him.
She said the driver, who had already been shot by the suspects in the stomach, was stabilised.
Police spokesperson Captain Andre Beetge said police were on the crime scene and are investigating the incident.
This is a developing story.
