Three suspects are due to appear in court on Friday in connection with a double murder that occurred in the Bityi administrative area in the Eastern Cape.
Police said the arrests were made just days after the bodies of two brothers were found at their home in Mpunzana location outside Mthatha on Sunday night.
Provincial spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Siphokazi Mawisa said police received a tip-off and arrested two men at a taxi rank in Mthatha.
She said the ongoing operation led the team to the Zithulele Administrative area in Mqanduli, where “the main suspect was allegedly hiding”.
Mawisa said police arrested the third suspect at Kwaaiman junction while driving a white Ford Ranger bakkie.
She said the vehicle was not reported stolen, and a search of the suspect led to the recovery of an unlicensed firearm with the serial number filed off.
Mawisa said the trio, aged between 20 and 30, face two counts of murder as well as the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition in the Bityi magistrate’s court.
