Eastern Cape police are searching for the gunmen who killed three people and wounded three others in a shooting at a tavern in a rural area near Bityi, in the Eastern Cape.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, says the incident happened in the Mqekezweni Administrative Area near the town on Thursday night.
She said patrons were sitting on the verandah of the tavern when three men approached and shot a 26-year-old man multiple times, before ordering the other patrons to lie on the floor.
Naidu said they went inside and two more people, aged 31 and 41, were shot and killed, while three other people were wounded and taken to hospital for treatment.
"At this stage the motive for the shooting is unknown. Bityi detectives are investigating three cases of murder and three of attempted murder," Naidu said.
