Three suspects, aged between 25 and 52, will appear in the Mbizana Magistrate’s Court on Monday on charges of kidnapping.
Hawks spokesperson in the Eastern Cape, Captain Yolisa Mgolodela says it is alleged that ten suspects, armed with firearms and bush knives, entered the homestead of a 72-year-old on Wednesday evening and he was reportedly manhandled and kidnapped.
She says they demanded a sum of R20 000, five cattle, and two goats from the victim, who was accused of stealing goats.
The matter was reported to the Hawks on Thursday and a multi-disciplinary investigation led to the arrest of one suspect on the same day, and two more were arrested on Friday.
Captain Mgolodela says more arrests are imminent.
