Tensions spill over in Panayiotou bail appeal hearing

Christoper Panayiotou, the Port Elizabeth man accused of murdering his school teacher wife Jayde, will have to wait another week to find out whether or not he has been granted bail.

Panayiotou’s defence advocate Mike Hellens led lengthy arguments in the Grahamstown High Court on Monday in support of why his client should be granted bail.

After listening to the arguments presented before him, Judge Glen Goosen said he would give judgment on the matter next Tuesday the 28th of July.

There was plenty of tension in the courtroom, and at one point, advocate Terry Price - for the defence - was heard asking Jayde's father Derek Inggs if he had bumped into him - to which Inggs retorted that it was Price who had bumped him.

Jayde Panayiotou's sister Toni Inggs, her father Derek, and several other family members wore Justice for Jayde T-shirts during proceedings.

Although he wasn't in court yesterday, Inggs was scathing of her brother in law Christopher Panayiotou.

"If Chris was innocent at all, I do believe he would have turned around and said-Mom, dad, like he used to call my parents-please believe me I did not do this. It is just proof of what a coward he is. The way he acts in Court is a pure example of his guilt and that is visible for everybody to see" she said.
