The teacher from Kariega who allegedly faked his kidnapping, was granted bail in the local magistrates court on Wednesday.
Xolile Douw, who faces charges of defeating the ends of justice and extortion, was released on bail of R7000.
He was warned to be back in court on the 23 May.
During his first appearance on Tuesday, the state said it would oppose bail provided Douw can produce a verifiable address. He also had to appoint an attorney, as he does not qualify for legal aid representation.
On Wednesday, Lunga Davids represented Douw in court.
He told the court that his client would be staying with his sister in KwaNobuhle for the duration of the trial.
Further bail conditions include reporting to the KwaNobuhle police station every Monday and Friday between 08:00 and 20:00, and that he should not interfere with the state witness, who are his wife and children.
