The Western Cape Provincial Regulatory Entity says it will be holding a hearing with a view to cancelling the operating licenses of 14 members of a taxi association in George.
This follows this week's arson attacks on several Go George buses as local taxi operators violently object to the George Municipality's Integrated Public Transport Network.
Losses are put at an estimated R15-million.
The Provincial Regulatory Entity said it had received information from the police linking certain vehicles owned by members of the Uncedo Taxi Association in George to the violent protests on Wednesday, during which roads were barricaded, buses set alight and CCTV cameras and police vehicles damaged.
Spokesperson, Byran la Hoe, says more operating licences are likely to be affected and camera and video footage is currently being scrutinised to establish vehicle registration numbers and to identify offending operators.
He says the matter has been set down for a hearing during the latter part of September.
