A suspected cable thief was fatally wounded by a security officer at a Nelson Mandela Bay municipal storage depot in Kensington.
Captain Andre' Beetge said the 30-year-old man was spotted by the officer on the premises on Connaught Street on Tuesday evening where cables are stored.
He said on confronting the suspect "a shooting incident took place in which the man was killed".
Beetge said it is suspected that he was busy stealing cables.
He said Mount Road police opened an inquest docket as well as a house breaking case.
