A well-coordinated team effort between the Port Elizabeth Flying Squad, K9 unit and Algoa Park police has resulted in the arrest of three suspects, aged between 22 and 31, as well as the recovery of a stolen vehicle in a dramatic chase in which a man was killed.
Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg says police members were busy following up on information in the Central area on Friday when one of them noticed a suspicious Toyota Corrolla.
The driver sped away and during a high speed chase down Russel Road, the suspects entered the freeway onto on-coming traffic and crashed into a barrier.
Three men and a woman then jumped out of the car and ran away.
Captain Janse van Rensburg says the driver of the car attempted to evade arrest by jumping from the bridge, ultimately resulting in his death.
The remaining suspects were arrested and will appear in court on Monday on charges of possession of a suspected stolen vehicle, reckless and negligent driving and attempted murder.
