A 53-year-old man made a brief appearance in the Albertinia Magistrate's Court on Monday in connection with the murder of two young girls aged, nine and 10.
Timothy Ova was arrested last Friday after the bodies of Jacorine Vaaltyn and Sharon Arries were found inside his dwelling at the back of an RDP house.
Police said a post-mortem revealed that they had been suffocated as sand was discovered in their nostrils and throats.
The post-mortem further confirmed that no sexual assault took place.
Police spokesperson Captain Malcolm Pojie says one child's body was found underneath Ova's bed while the other was in a blue plastic drum.
Both bodies were covered in a sheet.
Ova will be back in court again on Thursday.
The motive for the murders remains a mystery.
