The State has vehemently opposed a renewed bail attempt by embattled Gqeberha businessman and alleged wife-killer Arnold Terblanche, with several new damning allegations against him coming out in court on Tuesday.
Before the application for bail last week - based on so-called new facts - Terblanche was believed to have tried to influence the appointment of the two judges that would hear the matter.
He allegedly conspired with a state witness, known only as "Mr A", to bribe the allocated judges to grant him bail.
In the state's opposing affidavit, "Mr A" did not go ahead with the plan.
However, the judges who were appointed, judge Sunil Rugunana, seconded by judge Vuyokazi Noncembu, did rule that Terblanche be allowed to present new facts and evidence in his bid for bail.
Terblanche was arrested at St Albans Prison on Friday, a day after he launched the fresh bid for bail.
Evidence he had presented was communication between him and one of his co-accused, Reinardt Leach, that he said exonerates him from having had anything to do with the murder of his estranged wife, Vicki, in October last year.
Vicki had been embroiled in a divorce battle with Terblanche at the time and was then in a relationship with Leach.
The state charges that when Leach realised that Vicki would no longer be his "cash cow", he allegedly informed Terblanche that she was using a lot of drugs.
It says Vicki had been unaware that Leach was allegedly spying on her and reporting back to Terblanche.
The state has added seven new charges against Terblanche, including conspiracy to kill both his co-accused, as well as trying to interfere in his murder trial.
Arguments in Terblanche's new bail application are expected to take place at a later stage.
