Police have arrested six people following two days of violent protests in Ugie in the north Eastern Cape.
Police spokesperson, Captain Ursula Roelofse, says they were arrested on Wednesday on charges of public violence.
She says shops and roads that had been closed as a result of the protest were open today and police are maintaining a strong presence in the area.
Meanwhile, the trade union Ceppwawu, says the Ugie protest is due to an ongoing dispute between the union and timber company, PG Bison over the dismissal of workers in 2013.
Spokesperson, Welile Nolingo says workers are unhappy about management's failure to follow procedure when a further five workers and two shop stewards were dismissed this year.
He said another grievance is over workers who have not been reinstated after being fired in 2013 after a legal strike.
Nolinga says although the Union won its labour court case over the dismissal of workers, PG Bison keeps saying that they have not been reinstated because of so-called technical issues.
He confirmed CEPPWAWU and PG Bison management have had a number of meetings and the issue has been referred to the Bargaining Council however the dispute remains unresolved.
