Police in King Williams Town have arrested nearly 20 people who were part of a violent protest in Gingsberg on Tuesday morning.
Police Spokesperson Lieutenant Khaya Tonjeni says police had to fire rubber bullets to disperse the crowd.
He says about 400 protesters including adults and schoolchildren were blocking the main entrance to King Williams Town, demanding proper roads, jobs and other service delivery related issues.
Tonjeni says police and medical services are on the scene maintaining a strong presence.
Meanwhile A resident of Ugie in the North Eastern Cape has asked AlgoaFM News to warn motorists of protest action on the go on the road between Ugie and Mclear.
A short while ago, protesters were burning tyres and reportedly also stoning cars about a kilometre outside Ugie.
Motorists have been advised to avoid the area and to use an alternate route.
