Eastern Cape police are hunting for three gunmen who forced their way into a homestead in the Bityi area on Wednesday night, and gunned down and killed seven people.
Colonel Priscilla Naidu, says the Acting Provincial Police Commissioner, Major General Thandiswa Kupiso, has directed that a team be assigned to investigate the gruesome incident.
She says six people died on the scene, while the seventh victim succumbed to their injuries in hospital.
Colonel Naidu says the investigation has been taken over by the Provincial Organised Crime Unit.
The victims are all family members aged between 29 and 68 who were busy preparing for a funeral this weekend.
The family were together preparing for the funeral of their relative, 62-year-old Novotile Mgxada, who was killed last week.
