A 31-year-old Gqeberha security officer was wounded in the chest when he exchanged fire with three robbery suspects in Perseverance on Tuesday morning.
Police spokesperson, Captain Andre’ Beetge, said the incident occurred at a garage at around 07:15.
He said one of the suspects was involved in a physical struggle with the security officer and as a result shots were fired.
Beetge said the security officer was wounded in the chest while it is not known if the suspect also sustained any gunshot whounds.
He said the assailants took an undisclosed amount of money as well as a firearm from the wounded man before fleeing in a white bakkie.
Beetge said police have opened a case of business robbery and attempted murder for further investigation.
