Roadworks on N2 in PE to commence in August

The South African National Roads Agency Ltd (SANRAL) will commence on Monday, 3 August with the special maintenance of a 28-kilometre stretch of the dual carriageway N2 road between Bramlin Interchange and Soutwerke in Port Elizabeth, within the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality in the Eastern Cape.

The roadworks are expected to continue over a period of 18 months and will entail maintenance including localised repairs of existing pavement failures, resurfacing and drainage improvements.

This portion of N2 carries very high traffic. All efforts will be made to keep traffic disruptions to a minimum, with most of the construction work being undertaken outside peak periods.

High visibility signage will also be used to warn traffic of impending construction zones. Commuters who use the N2 during peak hours may be required to accommodate longer travel times.
The project will provide employment for up to 200 individuals. Specific aspects of the project have been earmarked for implementation using local SMMEs.  In addition, technical and business skills training will be provided to improve the capacity of these local SMMEs to tender competitively for construction work.
