The Buffalo City Metro (BCM) is warning beachgoers of a red tide along the city's coastline.
BCM's Marine Services General Manager, Siani Tilney, says people should avoid collecting or eating shellfish.
She says they will continue to monitor the toxicity of a red tide, a common term used for harmful algae bloom
Red tides are said to produce harmful toxins, capable of causing fatalities in fish, shellfish, mammals and even birds.
People with chronic respiratory illnesses are advised to avoid coastal areas affected by this harmful algae bloom
