The National Khoisan Council has confirmed that King Khoisan SA remains in stable condition in a Northern Cape hospital following an accident that claimed the life of his wife.

Queen Khoisan SA, Cynthia Tiegardt, 54, was the only deceased in the crash that took place on the N9 between Colesburg and Noupoort on Friday.

At the time of the accident, there were five people in the vehicle.

The couple was on their way from their home in Gqeberha to the Union Buildings in Pretoria, where the Khoisan community was staging a protest.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Timothy Sam says the crash was likely caused by a burst tire.

According to Sam, King Khoisan SA is recuperating well and Mannie Dipico Hospital, while the rest of the occupants were discharged.
