At least three suspects were still at large on Monday afternoon following an early-morning home invasion in Lorraine.
Police spokesperson Captain Andre Beetge said that at around 4 am, three armed and masked men entered the home of an elderly couple and demanded valuables from the 71-year-old male victim.
He was shot twice in the abdomen during the incident.
One of the suspects also pushed the man’s 85-year-old wife causing her to fall and break one of her legs.
Captain Beetge said the suspects allegedly stole two laptops, four cell phones, and jewellery before fleeing from the scene.
“On reaching the outside of the house, a security response vehicle attending to the scene arrived at the house,” Beetge said in a brief statement.
“One of the suspects fired shots at the security personnel on which the security officers fired back at them.
The suspects then ran into the nearby bushes evading capture.”
No security personnel was injured during the shooting incident, but it’s unknown if any of the suspects were wounded.
