Gqeberha police reported the discovery of the remains of a female on the Sacramento Trail on Sunday.
Captain Andre’ Beetge said in a statement that it is “suspected to be the remains of 45-year-old Silvia Wittal, who went missing on 30 December 2021”.
He said after an extensive search of three years, she was never found, but he said the new discovery could be the breakthrough in the mystery.

“The partial remains which includes a skull, as well as personal belongings of Silvia Wittal were found.
“DNA testing and further forensic analysis of the remains and belonging will be conducted in order to confirm the identity of the deceased person,” Beetge said.
According to earlier reports, the 45-year-old German national was last spoken to on the 30th of December, 2021, and a missing person's report was filed in January when her car was found abandoned at Schoenmakerskop.
