Police have confirmed that a ransom demand has now been made for the safe return of Rajathi Gnanaraj.
However, Hawks Eastern Cape spokesperson, Lieutenant-Colonel Avele Fumba, did not disclose the amount, saying that they were focussed on Gnanaraj's safe return.
Police said earlier that the 41-year-old was kidnapped in full view of her husband outside her workplace in Deal Party on Friday night.
A spokesperson said the couple was sitting in their vehicle in Grahamstown Road when they were approached by seven suspects who were armed.
The suspects smashed the vehicle's window when Gnanaraj would not open the car door and hauled her out into a silver Toyota Corolla which sped off in the direction of New Brighton.
The other suspects got into a red Haval and drove off, leaving the kidnapped woman's husband behind.
Anyone who can assist in tracing the victim can contact SAPS Mount Road, Captain Elaine Metelerkamp 082 779 7186, Crime Stop on 08600 10111, or their nearest police station.
