PE mom arrested for allegedly killing newborn baby

Port Elizabeth police have arrested a 36 year-old woman for the murder of her newborn baby. 

Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg says a gardener working at a property in Central found the body of the baby in a plastic bag on Wednesday after investigating a strange smell. 

Janse van Rensburg says the woman, who also works at the property, was arrested later  the same afternoon. 

The woman is expected to appear in court on Friday.

Janse van Rensburg says the baby may have been suffocated and an autopsy will be done to confirm this.
