Two Port Elizabeth police members have appeared in the New Brighton Magistrates court for allegedly aiding and abetting a woman to escape from police custody.
Police spokesperson, Captain Andre Beetge, says the 53-year old Warrant Officer will be investigated internally by SAPS.
Beetge says he was released as it emerged in court that he was not directly involved with the woman's release.
Meanwhile, the 58-year old Sergeant Mandlenkosi Mthakama is facing charges of corruption, aiding and abetting a woman to escape from police custody and defeating the ends of justice.
Mthakama's arrest at Kwazakhele police station follows an alert last week when a 28-year old murder suspect, Lungiswa Tsenge, could not be accounted for- she's still at large.
Beetge says the case was postponed until the 9th of July for further investigation.
