Convicted killer Christopher Panayiotou applied for leave to appeal his conviction in the Port Elizabeth High Court on Wednesday.
Panayiotou was sentenced to life in prison in November after he was found guilty of being the mastermind behind his wife Jayde's murder.
His co-accused Zolani Sibeko applied for leave to appeal his conviction and sentence while Sinethemba Nemembe applied for leave to appeal his conviction.
None of the accused were in court - only murdered school teacher Jayde Panayiotou's mother and Christopher's parents.
Defence advocate Terry Price argued that Judge Dayalin Chetty ignored certain important aspects of the trial when he delivered his judgment.
Price said one of the aspects included the fact that police never had a warrant to search the alleged middleman Luthando Siyoni's house.
He said Siyoni was also interrogated for several hours and police threatened him with prison if did not implicate himself.
The self-confessed middleman Siyoni has since been arrested for murder after being on the run for more than six months.
Meanwhile, the co-accused's attorney Peter Dauberman said he was confident that his clients had a good chance of success if granted leave to appeal.
Judgement will be handed down on Thursday.
