The 22-year-old University of Fort Hare nursing student arrested for the murder of his girlfriend appeared briefly in the Mdantsane Magistrates Court on Thursday where he abandoned his bid for bail.

The State has called its first witness to testify in the High Court Case in Mossel Bay in which five men are accused of killing the 63-year-old Heila Killian on a farm outside Still Bay last year. Killian was visiting the farm Gazania in April 2019 and was braaing with her sister Brenda and husband David Thomas when five armed suspects in orange overalls opened fire on them.

A Warrant of arrest has been issued for a taxi driver who failed to appear in court on Thursday. The 28-year-old Yibanathi Ndike is facing two charges of culpable homicide and one of reckless and negligent driving following a horror accident in Port Elizabeth just over a year ago.

A metro ambulance on its way to a call out in Vastrap in Port Elizabeth was petrol-bombed on Wednesday night. Spokesperson Brigadier Thembinkosi Kinana says the ambulance was travelling on Standford Road shortly before 8 pm when a petrol bomb was thrown through the window.
