Five suspects were arrested soon after they robbed a discount store in Govan Mbeki Avenue in North End, Port Elizabeth on Friday afternoon. Police say it is alleged that the men entered the store and threatened the staff with two firearms, before fleeing with cell phones, a laptop computer and an undisclosed amount of money.

Members of the Port Elizabeth Flying Squad arrested two alleged gang members and confiscated firearms while they were on their way to a funeral on Friday afternoon. Police received information of a suspicious white Jeep that was driving in Standford Road in a funeral convoy and upon searching the seven occupants, two were found in possession of a 9mm pistol, of which the serial number was filed off, and a 7.65 mm pistol, which was reported stolen in Walmer in January last year.

Three people have been killed in an accident on the R408 between Dutywa and Ngcobo in the Eastern Cape. The Provincial Transport Department says the accident happened late on Saturday afternoon when a Toyota Avanza with 11 occupants overturned.
