The woman whose body was found trapped inside her vehicle at the bottom of the notorious Voëlklip cliff in Herold's Bay earlier this month wanted to end her life. That’s according to the daughter of 57-year-old Jo-Anne Lourens who was reported missing on the 17th of March. Lourens' daughter Jessica Hapgood-Strickland told AlgoaFM News that she received a call on the 16th that her mother was sitting inside her vehicle parked at Voëlklip. She said when she arrived, her mom told her she wanted to drive off the cliff; ‘but did not have the guts to do so.

A 55-year-old Butterworth taxi driver has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the 2019 rape of a 19-year-old hitchhiker. Sindile Lennox Somdaka and two others repeatedly raped the victim for three days while chained to a steel bed at his homestead in Mission Location in May 2019.
