Buffalo City Municipality said five children were taken to hospital due to “incident related to excessive drinking” as hundreds of learners held so-called pens down parties in several areas of the Metro on Saturday night.

Six people have died and seven others sustained injuries in a crash involving a bakkie and a minibus taxi on the R61 near Corana Village just outside Mthatha on Saturday morning. Eastern Cape Transport Department spokesperson Unathi Binqose said it is alleged that the bakkie, with five passengers on-board, was en route to a traditional ceremony at a nearby village when it crashed into the back of a stationary minibus taxi that was loading a passenger.
