NPA identifies beloved colleague gunned down in EC

Police are still searching for the suspects who gunned down an Eastern Cape prosecutor near Butterworth last week.

Ntsikelelo McAllister Ntlekeni, 49, was a seasoned State Prosecutor at the District Court in Butterworth.

According to police, he was shot by two balaclava-clad men at the New Rest Location just outside of Butterworth on Thursday night.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) on Monday expressed its shock, sadness, and anger at the shooting.

Spokesperson, Luxolo Tyali said they were working around the clock to ensure that the killers, and those that may be involved, are brought to book.

Ntlekeni, who joined the NPA in 2001 as an intern, graduated from the University of Transkei (Walter Sisulu University) and started his prosecuting career in the Western Cape.

He will be laid to rest at his home in Lubhacweni Location, in KwaBhaca (formerly Mount Frere) on Friday, following a memorial service planned for him at the Butterworth Court on Wednesday.

"The NPA sends its condolences to friends and colleagues," said Tyali.

Ntlekeni leaves behind his wife and two children.
