The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has confirmed that no case has been enrolled against a Knysna mayoral committee member for community services following an alleged domestic violence incident.
On Monday, police confirmed that the 40-year-old man, who is a member of the Patriotic Alliance, was arrested for his alleged involvement in a domestic violence incident of housebreaking.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Nobuntu Gantana said the incident allegedly happened on Friday night in one of the Ministerial residences in Bhisho.
According to a statement released by the police, the suspect, who is the complainant's ex-boyfriend, allegedly entered her house at around 23:00.
It was further alleged that he broke the woman's bedroom door.
When she arrived home moments later, the two allegedly got into a heated argument.
The man is said to have left the premises thereafter, but he was later traced to a fuel station in Qonce, where he was arrested.
NPA spokesperson Luxolo Tyali told Algoa FM News that the incident-related case was not enrolled by the Zwelitsha Magistrate's Court and is pending further investigation.
Earlier, the alleged incident was highlighted in a Facebook video post of over 19 minutes by PA leader Gayton Mckenzie, who identified the parties while denouncing gender-based violence.
McKenzie said he was shocked by the video of the incident, which occurred in the woman's home.
He said the two had been in a relationship which had ended.
McKenzie told his Facebook followers that the woman had reported to him that her ex allegedly spat in her face during an altercation and that she spat back at him.
He confirmed that the PA would be taking “serious action” against the party member and that he would be “removed from his position.”
