The East London Magistrate's Court denied bail to six suspects involved in a kidnapping case.
The suspects, whose ages range from 25-43 years, were arrested were arrested in November last year by the Hawks' provincial kidnapping task team.
Hawks spokesperson, Warrant Officer Ndiphiwe Mhlakuvana said they face charges of kidnapping and money laundering after the alleged abduction of a foreign national on 17 November, 2023.
The victim was in his vehicle when he was accosted by the suspects who pointed a firearm at him.
The man was forced to hand over his bank card and PIN, and the suspects reportedly spent R300,000 using the victim's card.
Among those in custody are a former employee and his relatives, who were allegedly involved planning the kidnapping.
Mhlakuvana said the victim was released as a result of pressure from the police.
The six will appear in court again on Wednesday.
