Nine motorists to appear in PE court for drunk driving


Nine people are expected to appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Monday following their arrest over the weekend for alleged drunk driving.

Metro police had several roadblocks over the weekend, specifically to catch drunk drivers.

The Metro's traffic director Warren Prins said the lowest recorded breathalyser reading, of the six arrested by his team, was 0.52 mg/l of breath and the highest 1.03 mg/l.

The legal limit is 0.24 mg per litre of breath.

On Saturday another three drivers were arrested when their breathalyser tests recorded 1.11 mg per litre of breath, 1.09 mg/l and 0.50 mg/.

The suspects were taken to the Kabega South African Police Services centre and the Gelvandale Saps centre as the roadblocks were conducted at these two police precinct.
