New deadline for tanker berth at Port of Port Elizabeth

Africa Ports

Transnet National Ports Authority said on Tuesday that the reinstatement of the tanker berth at the Port of Port Elizabeth will occur on the 11th of December.

Acting port manager, David Goliath, said the three-day delay is as a result of interruptions to project delivery.

He said these range from adverse weather conditions that have reduced productivity, delays in the fabrication of components required for the berthing dolphin, and the scarcity of lifting equipment in the region.

Goliath said to mitigate project reduced productivity, TNPA working alongside the contractor, has increased project working hours and mobilised additional resources including equipment to the site to meet
the original completion date of 6 December 2024.

However, despite these efforts, the project is still behind schedule by three working days.

Goliath said Transnet National Ports Authority was prioritising the completion of this project and continues to provide regular updates on progress to its stakeholders.
