The man who brutally murdered South Africa’s former First Lady, Marike de Klerk, is expected to be released on parole from the St Albans Correctional Centre in Gqeberha on Wednesday.
When the prison gates open for Luyanda Mboniswa, he will reunite with his family in the city.
Mboniswa was 21 years old when he strangled and stabbed 64-year-old De Klerk at her beachfront apartment in Table View, where he worked as a security guard.
The court convicted him of murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, and housebreaking.
He was sentenced to life in prison but became eligible for parole after serving 22 years of his sentence.
According to the Department of Correctional Services, Mboniswa will be restricted to his magisterial district as part of his parole conditions.
Several high-profile prisoners have been granted parole this year including Frans du Toit and Theuns Kruger, who violently assaulted, raped and slit the throat of a Gqeberha woman, Alison Botha in 1994.
