Gqeberha police have launched a manhunt for six suspects who torched a house on Roman Street in Booysens Park, killing three people.
Police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, said the incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
She said the homeowner and his girlfriend were socialising with three other friends, two men, and a woman when the men arrived just after 1 am.
“It is alleged that the suspects were looking for drugs,” Janse Van Rensburg said.
She said all the occupants of the house were assaulted, while a woman was stabbed in the arm.
The second woman had no visible injuries.
“Both females were outside the house when the suspects tied up the three males. They allegedly poured petrol in the house, and set the house alight,” Janse Van Rensburg said.
The deceased were identified as Christopher Mentoor (28), Darren Aphew (29), and Winston Clarke (30), who burned to death in the inferno.
“Three cases of murder, arson, and assault to cause grievous bodily harm was opened for further investigation. The suspects and the motive are unknown and will form part of the investigation,” Janse Van Rensburg said.
