Police in Gqeberha are searching for the gunmen who shot and killed five men in a shack in New Brighton on Tuesday night.
Warrant-Officer Majola Nkholi said the shooting occurred in the Chris Hani informal settlement at around 9.30 pm.
He said New Brighton police were called to the scene of the shooting, where the found the bodies of the men with multiple gunshot wounds.
Nkohli said that the circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.
He said the names of the deceased will be released when the formal identification process is concluded.
The police are appealing to anyone who can assist in tracing the suspects to contact their nearest police station.
Meanwhile, the latest mass shooting in the Eastern Cape comes after five family members were gunned down in the Ncenjana location in Bityi on Friday night.
Two children were wounded in the incident. Police arrested two suspects on Tuesday night and they will appear in court on Thursday on charges of murder, attempted murder, armed robbery and the possession of a firearm and ammuntion.
The Eastern Cape was also recently rocked by the killing of six community patrollers in Qumbu and a month earlier, 18 people, mostly women, were murdered in two houses in Lusikisiki on 28 September.
Several suspects have been charged in connection with that incident.
