George police have opened an inquest docket after the body of a 33-year-old man was recovered from the water at Herolds Bay on Thursday.
Police spokesperson, Sergeant Chris Spies, said the discovery was made at around 15:10.
Earlier, police said a search and rescue operation commenced on Wednesday evening after a member of the public reported that a vehicle had gone over the cliff at Voëlklip at Herolds Bay.
The search resumed on Thursday and included the SAPS, EMS search and rescue, George Municipality Fire Department, NSRI, Wilderness Search and Rescue, and police divers.
Spies said a post mortem will be conducted soon to determine the exact cause of death.
