A man has been seriously injured after a boat capsized in the Swartkops River on the outskirts of Port Elizabeth.
NSRI Station Six commander Ian Gray says a duty crew was activated on Saturday following reports from the Eastern Cape Emergency Medical Service of a boat capsized in the Swartkops River mouth.
On arrival at the scene, it was found that a five metre rubber-duck had capsized in waves in two to three metre swells during the Spring Tide outgoing tide in the Swartkops River mouth with three adult Port Elizabeth men onboard.
One man was assisted out of the water by local surfers.
The remaining two men were rescued by Blue Water Bay lifeguards on a rescue jet-ski.
Grey says one of the men was transported to hospital in a serious but stable condition suffering from a suspected spinal injury and the remaining two men were not injured.
