The Hawks said that a 57-year-old man appeared in court in Gqeberha this week on charges of dealing in drugs using a Postnet outlet in the city.

Spokesperson, Captain Yolisa Mgolodela, said Dirk Wismeijer was arrested by members of the Serious Organised Crime Investigation (SOCI) team at a Kirkwood guest house on Friday.

She said that he allegedly “attempted to smuggle 12.44 grams of Metamphetamine worth more than R4000  to France” via a Postnet outlet in Newton Park.

“Wismeijer was investigated by SOCI under an enquiry, where after the warrant of his arrest was authorised (and) hence his arrest on 19 May 2023,” she said.

Mgolodela said he appeared in court on the same day and was granted bail of R5000.   He had to surrender his passport.

The matter was postponed to 2 June.
