The Makana Municipality has issued a boil notice after E.coli was detected in water samples taken earlier this month.
Spokesperson, Anele Mjekula, said the Municipality "received water testing results from the resampling" done and "which indicated that there were failures in the water quality, in that the presence of E.coli was detected."
He said in dealing with the matter consumers are advised to take precautionary measures including the following options:
*boil water before drinking, or
*put 1 teaspoon (5ml) of bleach (eg. JIK) in 25 litres of water and leave to stand for 30 minutes before consumption.
Mjekula said the "water from the source does not have failures," adding that the " failure was found in the sample points of Settlers Hospital, Ext 7 Clinic and Indoor Sports Centres."
He said in dealing with the matter, the Makana Municipality will continuously do regular water tests, and take appropriate actions to ensure that microbiological water quality results meet the drinking water quality standards as prescribed on SANS 0241.
"A subsequent communication will be issued as soon as this is completely resolved," Mkejukla said.
