The South African National Roads Agency will start with special maintenance of a 28 kilometer stretch of the dual carriageway on the N2 between the Bramlin Interchange and the Salt Works in Port Elizabeth.
The roadworks are expected to commence on Monday and will continue over a 18 month-period.
SANRAL Regional Manger, Mbulelo Peterson, says work includes maintenance, repairs of existing pavement failures, resurfacing and drainage improvements.
He says all efforts will be made to keep traffic disruptions to a minimum with most construction work done outside peak periods
Peterson says high visibility signage will also be used to warn traffic of impending construction zones.
Commuters on the N2 during peak hours may experience longer travel times.
