The alleged orchestrator of the mass murders of 18 people in Lusikisiki in the Eastern Cape, is already behind bars serving a life sentence.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said in a statement that Mzukisi Ndamase, 46, was apprehended at a correctional facility where he is serving a life sentence for murder and robbery.
During a brief court appearance on Thursday, Ndamase elected to conduct his own defence, against the court's recommendations.
He has abandoned his bid for bail.
Ndamase will now join his co-accused, Siphosoxolo Myekethe, 45, Aphiwe "AP" Ndende, 25, Lwando Antony Abi, 33, and Bonga Hintsa, 31, Zenande Paya, 38, and Mawethu Nomdlembu, 36, who have all since abandoned bail.
All of the accused are facing 18 charges of murder and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
According to the NPA, Paya and Nomdlwembu were arrested in Flagstaff on 17 October, in possession of the four rifles and ammunition that were allegedly moved to other locations after the murders.
Ndende and Hintsa were arrested in Port Shepstone while Abi was apprehended in East London on 16 October.
Myekethe was arrested on 7 October at his home in Mthimde Location, Mamfengwini Area in the district of Lusikisiki.
The deceased was gunned down on 28 September at two neighbouring homesteads in Ngobozana Village near Lusikisiki.
Five others were injured in the attack.
The case against all the accused has been remanded to 26 November for further investigations.
