A DA ward councillor in the Kouga Municipality was shot and wounded in an incident on the seaside town’s main road on Thursday.
The Municipality said in a post on Facebook that Jacque Alexander was shot outside the municipality’s main building on Da Gama Road.
Alexander, who is the councillor for Ward 4 and was the mayoral committee member for Corporate and Communication Services, was transported to a Gqeberha hospital.
He was said to be in a stable condition.
According to the Kouga Municipality statement, four suspects were apprehended 45 minutes after the incident, following the swift response of the police and municipal law enforcement to the incident.
“During this challenging time, we request the community to keep Cllr Alexander and his family in their thoughts and prayers.
“As we await further information, we assure the community that we will provide updates as they become available,” the statement said.
