Jordaan reiterates anti-corruption message

Nelson Mandela Bay executive mayor, Danny Jordaan, delivered his anti-corruption message when he spoke at the handover of wheelchairs to people with disabilities on Wednesday.

120 people living with a physical disability received wheelchairs after the Association for Person's with Physical Disabilities wrapped up its fourth succesful "wheelchair Wednesday" campaign.

In his address, Jordaan thanked Spar for its support of the campaign which he says seeks to help restore the dignity to people who cannot do it themselves.

The executive mayor also used the opportunity to reiterate his commitment to rooting out corruption in the Municipality.

"We are not going to allow corruption and theft in this Metro.  If you have been stealing, you are going to jail," he said.

Jordaan said that the Metro will ensure that public money is used for the benefit of the community and "not for people inside (the Municipality) to steal or make friends with people outside on how to steal it."

The executive mayor said this "is not going to happen."

Meanwhile, the Association for Person's with Physical Disabilities in Nelson Mandela Bay wrapped up its fourth succesful "wheelchair Wednesday" campaign with a 20% increase in funds generated.

The executive Director for the APD Brian Bezuidenhoudt said they were thrilled to have Jordaan attend what he said was a "meaningful community matter."
