A 20-year-old Jikileza taxi driver is in critical condition in Dora Nginza Hospital in Gqeberha, after being shot several times on Monday morning.
Police spokesperson, Captain Andre' Beetge, says the shooting occurred at around 6 am on Old Uitenhage Road in Kleinskool.
He says the driver and a passenger came under fire from three men who pulled in front of the man's taxi.
Beetge says the passenger was able to flee, while the wounded driver sped off towards the hospital, but didn't make it all the way.
The driver hit a pavement opposite KeNako Mall and was attended to by police and paramedics.
A case of attempted murder is under investigation.
