The police watchdog, IPID, will be investigating the death of an 18-year-old man in Mthatha, over the weekend.
According to one report, the deceased teenager was a Grade 12 learner.
Eastern Cape police spokesperson, Lieutenant-Colonel Siphokazi Mawisa, said the shooting occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning in Mabutho Street in North Crest in Mthatha.
She said the circumstances surrounding the incident will form part of the investigation.
Mawisa said the case was referred to IPID, which investigates incidents involving police members.
